1 pound kataifi or shredded phyllo dough 1 cup ghee or melted butter 1 pound Akkawi cheese or mozzarella cheese 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon rose water 1/4 cup chopped pistachios
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Mix shredded phyllo dough with melted butter, press into the baking dish to form a base layer.
Layer shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the dough.
Add another layer of shredded phyllo dough, press down firmly.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Simmer until syrup thickens.
Once baked, let Knafeh cool for a few minutes.
Drizzle sugar syrup evenly over Knafeh.
Garnish with chopped pistachios.
