Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound kataifi or shredded phyllo dough
  • 1 cup ghee or melted butter
  • 1 pound Akkawi cheese or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Mix shredded phyllo dough with melted butter, press into the baking dish to form a base layer.
  • Layer shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the dough.
  • Add another layer of shredded phyllo dough, press down firmly.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Simmer until syrup thickens.
  • Once baked, let Knafeh cool for a few minutes.
  • Drizzle sugar syrup evenly over Knafeh.
  • Garnish with chopped pistachios.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the unique flavors of Palestinian Knafeh!
