Mixing bowl
- 50 ml milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract or tsp vanilla bean paste
- 2 eggs medium/large
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp chocolate chips optional
- 2 tsp icing sugar
- 5 generous slices of Panettone bread about 300g
Preheat the oven to 180°C / 170°C fan / Gas 4.
Cube the Panettone bread into 1″ / 2.5 cm pieces and place them in the ovenproof dish.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, vanilla extract, eggs, and sugar until well combined.
Pour the mixture over the Panettone bread cubes, ensuring that all the bread is covered.
Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the Panettone bread mixture.
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before dusting with icing sugar.
