Ingredients
  

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 clove garlic crushed or grated
  • 1 cup milk whole milk, low-fat milk, or almond milk
  • ½ cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano or parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional add-ins: Italian seasoning parsley, spinach, mushrooms, grilled chicken, shrimp, or salmon

Instructions
 

  • In a skillet, melt the butter over low heat. Add the crushed or grated garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  • Sprinkle in the flour, whisking continuously to form a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the roux is golden brown.
  • Gradually pour in the milk while whisking vigorously to combine with the roux. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and the sauce becomes creamy.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, and add any optional ingredients as desired, allowing them to warm through in the sauce.
  • If serving with pasta, ensure the pasta is cooked to al dente, then drain and fold into the sauce until well coated.
  • Serve the creamy Alfredo sauce immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan or parsley.
