Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes or fresh equivalent
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar optional, to balance acidity
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes and stir well.
  • Season with salt, pepper, oregano, basil, and sugar (if using).
  • Lower the heat and simmer uncovered for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • If a smoother texture is desired, blend the sauce using a hand blender.
  • Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
