- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 cans 14 oz each crushed tomatoes or fresh ripe tomatoes (blended)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt or to taste
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
- Fresh basil leaves chopped (for garnish)
Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Add chopped onion and sauté until softened and golden.
Stir in garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Pour in crushed tomatoes and stir well.
Season with sugar, salt, pepper, and oregano.
Simmer uncovered on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir in heavy cream and butter until the sauce becomes creamy.
Add Parmesan cheese for extra richness, if desired.
Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
