Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds of fresh turnip greens
  • 4 slices of bacon chopped
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 smoked ham hock or turkey neck

Instructions
 

  • Prep the Greens: Wash and trim the turnip greens, removing tough stems.
  • Cook the Bacon: In a Dutch oven, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon but leave the grease.
  • Sauté Onion and Garlic: Add diced onion to bacon grease and cook until translucent. Stir in minced garlic.
  • Simmer the Greens: Add chicken broth, turnip greens, and ham hock. Simmer for 45 minutes until tender.
  • Season and Finish: Stir in apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Add bacon back to the pot. Cook for 5 more minutes.
