- 2 pounds of fresh turnip greens
- 4 slices of bacon chopped
- 1 small onion diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Red pepper flakes optional
- 1 smoked ham hock or turkey neck
Prep the Greens: Wash and trim the turnip greens, removing tough stems.
Cook the Bacon: In a Dutch oven, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove bacon but leave the grease.
Sauté Onion and Garlic: Add diced onion to bacon grease and cook until translucent. Stir in minced garlic.
Simmer the Greens: Add chicken broth, turnip greens, and ham hock. Simmer for 45 minutes until tender.
Season and Finish: Stir in apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Add bacon back to the pot. Cook for 5 more minutes.
