Equipment

  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Wooden spoon or whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cheese grater

Ingredients

  • cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for garnish

Instructions

  • Start with the base: Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add milk and water; bring to a gentle boil.
  • Cook pasta: Stir in the elbow macaroni and cook, stirring occasionally, until al dente (8–10 minutes). The liquid will thicken as it cooks.
  • Make the sauce: Lower the heat and mix in cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add cheddar, Monterey Jack, and Parmesan cheese, stirring until fully melted.
  • Add seasoning: Mix in ground mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until the sauce is creamy and coats the pasta evenly.
  • Serve: Let the mac and cheese rest for 2–3 minutes to thicken. Serve warm, garnished with red pepper flakes if desired.
